Vettaikaaran (2009)

well this will be short

Vettaikaaran, tamil for hunter is a super generic masala action film that is watch with brains turned off. the story is about a student aspiring to be police officer taking law into his hand against corrupt Officials. the film is an amalgamation of action, drama, thriller, comedy and romance (and maybe some more).

the film has its nonsensical scenes and points, the fact that the near last 20min of the film has multiple heavy scenes that should have been better paced and placed seemed like a missed opportunity. the thing this films does good (to speak something positive) would be the hero worship commonly seen in all masala films.

but really i didn’t have much to say for this film its what it is, i wont recommend it but if a masala film is what you crave i guess go for it.

Super 30 (2019)

the film is Based on the life of Patna-based mathematician  Anand Kumar who provides free education to poor students for higher studies and colleges, the film showcases his story to reach and open this famed programme called super 30 as it selects only 30 student and has high success rate.

as a failed product of the coaching system, i have my own biases towards the system yet it importance cant be understated. as a country that justifies any success to the mark obtained in an exam, coaching institutes were bound to become a business and with anything that turns into one the core thing they chase is money. the film showcases the corruptive nature of this chase than it will never be enough and realising this and fighting against it harder still.

i cant speak for the accuracy of the film like any film dramatisation is common yet the mans struggle to go against the establishment with his own belief is well portrayed.

the films main driving are its core actors Hrithik Roshan who puts fort one of his best performance not at par to Guzaarish (2010) but it still showcases his range. Aditya Srivastav as the coaching centre owner is the prime antagonist. Pankaj Tripathi as the education minister that makes you laugh and anger by his antics. with the supporting cast pulling their respective weights.

the biggest demerit to this film was its latter half tone as the film turns into a mini action film for a film about fight against the education system this sequence is not only jarring but also breaks the illusion of realism the film portrays till then. these choices to make this film a masala film kinda undermines the film narrative to break the mold.

the film had its share of controversies upon its release still its a well made movie worth the watch excluding its weak aspects. a solid weekday movie.

Jersey (2019)

i like a good sport story that not only uses its sport to built tension but also uses it to bring out the character and their choices.

the film is a bout a middle aged ex-cricketer Arjun (Nani) that has retired from the game but upon seeing his child hope to he his father as the hero he envisions him as, he tries to get back to the sport knowing the consequences of his actions.

the the points in the film where the film takes a normal path and points where the film surprised me, able to mesh these element the film the film is able to create the relatable characters that a good sports film need. the film might not explore its themes to the deepest points yet what it provides glimpses at the potential such stories have. themes like what becomes of a man that loses his passion and rive due to circumstances out of control and how and what motivates him to take it all up. the father son duo and their interaction are in many ways the heart of the film.

i could resonate so much with Arjun during this scene

is it a good film YES, a good sports film. it doesn’t care about the spectacle but rather its story and this is something i had been missing in many south Indian films i watched.

Paddington 2 (2017)

a sequel in many ways the hardest thing to do after the success of the 1st film, there is just so much that can go wrong just so much expectation to balance. yet if the balance is perfect the result might stun everyone.

i loved part one and 2 just added the cherry that’s even i didn’t know i wanted. what can i even say about this film its just so good. the best way i can say is heart, only the great sequels remember to not lose the heart of the original as sequel is made and stuff get added. Paddington 2 has its predecessors heart and charm and builds upon it with same vigor and passion. if you saw the 1st the 2nd is no-brainers.

it not only has the heart but also adds its own narrative tot he world it created, where 1st film was a passive story of Paddington facing challenges thrown at him, 2 involves his own action and becomes active storytelling with his quest to find thew book. with its colourful sets and characters it never fails to set the smile back to your face.

my 4th bear or teddy bear related film of the week and probably the last for some time and glad it was sweet.

Paddington (2014)

have you ever had marmalade, i haven’t but this film sure makes me want to try it.

how i imagine marmalade is as sweet citrusy jam and in many ways the apt description of this film. it would be so hard to find people that have negative to say about this film its a children’s film yes but taken care to give itself character and aura that anyone can enjoy and leave after watching it with a smile.

the story is about a young bear with the ability to speak and think leaving his home to go to London, and finding a abode among the Brown Family, with his presence brightens up their life.

the film is based of the works of Michael Bond, though i haven’t never had a prior exposure to his works i whole heartedly think this was very faithful rendition to his character. the naive but overly lovable cuddly bear and his escapade and new experience, the colourful film will always keep the show moving with vibrant shots and scenes allowing your eyes to move through the scene and gather so much information about the characters and the surrounding so easily.

the characters and charming and well casted with aura everyone being to the table is up there. best part about the film would be its ability to appeal to everyone from children to adult it never finds itself in a need to pander any demographic.

this is a hearty cozy Sunday film.

Léon: The Professional (1994)

A film i have been meaning to watch for a long time,

from a exiting opening to a mellowed middle and ending with bombastic climax. the film was so enjoyable. the film is about a exception hitman that ends up taking in a 14yr old girl has his protegee due to her parents being killed by corrupt DEA.

both Leon and mathilda are in many ways incomplete and their relationship allows them to find what they were missing and grow. the way the film character studies the cast opens the many layers each of them have. the film is very stylised, this complements its action and feel. presenting scenes that both suck you in and entice you.

the thing about this film that i ranked higher than its action story everything else will be casting, i after viewing and thought who else i would have liked to see in place of all the characters and i came up short of decent list and any such life to me is always a sign of well casted film. from Jean Reno to Natalie Portman do such a dynamic role and shoulder the huge task of making us care and empathies with the characters before the action pumps up. but to me the one that stole the show was Gary Oldman, man he was great cunning ruthless and crazy in such a nice package who isnt to enjoy his performance.

the end game boss is here

this film is an easy recommend by me and a easy pick for weekend watch.

My Mom’s New Boyfriend (2008)

after 2 continuous Seth comedies i wanted to see another style of comedy to ease or wash down the taste and surfing though the sites i though to use the filters and set 2008 the year i consider the best film year, and randomizing other filters i end up with a list in which this films title caught my eye, why you ask it was so similar to the blue film titles that i just got intrigued.

right off the bat this is another lazy Saturday film

its a story about a FBI agent (Colin Hanks) getting assigned to case where his own mothers (Meg Ryan) new boyfriend (Antonio Banderas) is a suspected art thief, and the awkward situation that arises through it.

the fact is the film initially seems interesting, it has the genic points through out but all in all its starts strong, but ones Antonio gets introduced you cant help but guess how the film will follow through and it irritates me that the film chooses such a simple and easy to see through choice Spoilers Antonio was actually CIA undercover agent dramatic music please. now not only this reveals fault the film itself lacks enough momentum to carry the plot forward and seems out of things to do as the film reaches its climax and then winds its out in a very underwhelming manner. well the only saving grace was i had none expectations from the get go, and going the save route left no means to attack the film, that’s that i guess.
