The Fighter (2010)

A biographical film about 2 Brothers who were, Boxers and follows the drama in the ring and out if it.

the movie begins with a documentary being made on the brothers Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) and Dicky Eklund (Christian Bale), Dicky is local hero for having once knocked down Sugar Ray and someone who is boast and believe it to be his greatest achievement. Micky on other hand is a strong fighter on his way to the big leagues, during this time we see that things are not right from the get go as the tendencies of Dicky to be a druggie and even though every one knows about it, its ignored. Micky falls in love with Charlene Fleming (Amy Adams) who bring Micky to realise that his brother is holding him back, this is when things get worse for Dicky as he get incarcerated and comes to understand how bad of a brother he has been, and starts to correct himself for his own sake and his family.

Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, had good chemistry and had genuine emotion about their relations even when they had a rift between them, but as the resolution comes we can understand the reason and relate to their Choices. Melissa Leo Acting as the hopeful mother trying her hardest for he sons in her own ways at one point forgot how her actions affected her sons. Amy Adams acts as the catalyst for the change between the brothers in a good way to bring them to reality that they avoided among themselves by acting as a external view point.

A movie that showcases people and their downfall and their struggles to live up to their achievements. A tag of good watch and rate of 7/10.

The Pianist (2002)

The Holocaust is among one of the Darkest chapters of history of human civilisation, it a tragedy that we must be aware of and understand so that it is never again given that chance to recur. The Pianist is

The story follows the life and ordeal of Polish-Jewish pianist and composer Władysław Szpilman, as Warsaw is occupied by Germany during the occupation of Poland, and how he and his family had to suffer and survive though the uncertain time, when there wasn’t any hope lingering ahead when people were being disposed of in front of your eyes. a time when living a single day more meant the world. its a movie that you should watch to feels the tensions and emotions the populace felt when the world was in such chaotic times.

the unease that is conveyed by Adrien Brody though his facial expressions and mannerism allows us viewers to feel the uncomfortable gut feel the protagonist feels all the time during his ordeal. No wonder he Bagged the Best actor in Academy awards At just age 29. another aspect that helps this feeling accentuate is the direction by Roman Polanski the way he presents the horrors and situations the people in Warsaw go through gives us sense of the chaos that allows the unsettling feel to endure, you can see the realism and certain viewpoints seem so real for it no surprise because Roman was himself a survivor of Holocaust. And Thus he also Bagged the best Director at Oscar.

this movie is a definite masterpiece and one that is meant to be watched and appreciated by the masses, As its only by understanding to such time does one try to prevent its occurrence.

A tag of master piece and rate of 8/10.

Shutter Island (2010)

a movie that was spoiled for me long before i sat to watch it, granted its a 9 yr old movie so i am the one to blame, so an i advice if you haven’t seen it see it now its a really good movie that you can appreciate more if you don’t get spoiled.

the story begins with us seeing Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) a marshal on his way to a an island which is an prison of sorts for people with criminal record, he is with a new partner he has never worked with before Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo). they are on a mission to find the whereabouts of a prisoner or as the head doctor, Dr. Cawley (Ben Kingsley) of the facility prefers to call them patients. just not all seems they way it is from the beginning there is a sense of uneasiness in the air. as the story progresses we see that the is a conspiracy of human experiments in these facilities…..or is there. is it that our lead Teddy is losing his sanity in looking for the truth.

the film sees great performance from the cast with Leo keeping the tension high and us viewers on edge while the supporting cast makes the scenes uneasy with there demeanour a perfect combo for a suspense movie.

the movie has a tight narrative with things keep on escalating and us viewers being made confused and more en-eased as the story progresses .the ending of this movie leaves you in a confused state leaving you to decide and decode the ending yourself, which is the best way for such a movie to end.

Which would be worse – to live as a monster, or to die as a good man?

Teddy Daniels

this line is a perfect ending to this movie, and you should watch for the worth of this line and make your own judgement

Theevandi (2018)

have you ever had a addiction, it doesn’t need to be anything bad, it could be as simple as a addiction to games, books, movies (ya i have this). then this movie could resonate with you. A Malayalam movie about a satirical representation of politics and addtiction to cigarettes.

Theevandi in Malayalam refers to Train engine of old that used to run on coal, and thus produces smoke and fire, therefore Thee = fire and Vandi = vehicle. this is the nickname of our protagonist Bineesh (Tovino Thomas) who is a smoker, a name he got because he got caught by police by mistake as a robber only because he snuck out of his house to smoke a cigg. when he and his girlfriend since childhood Devi (Samyuktha Menon) finally decided to marry she puts a condition to him that he should stop smoking. which he accepts early on but he could control his vice. So much so at on incident he forgot the engagement necklace so the brought it later but this time so that he doesn’t forget he kept it inside his cigarette packet, this was the last straw for and her family who ask for the engagement to be broken and that he shouldn’t even think of coming back until he stops smoking. this leads to him taking on the challenge only after he himself realises his own inability to stop, his friends and colleagues help him as a bet is place on the next seat of the constituency in the next election to brother in law if he stops smoking till then, and the one to stand in his way is his girlfriends father Madhu (Suraaj Venjarammoodu)

the movie is a good representation of addiction, the fact that we see our characters demise and indulgence because of that on vice is nicely portrayed, we see him in his highs and lows of addiction and can relate to the emotions whether or not you are a fellow smoker that feeling of inability to let go of your weakness is a natural trait we humans bare, and it takes a huge awaking for us to allows that to happen.

there is this one scene i really admired is that after the ultimatum is given to Bineesh by Devi about his smoking that he is sitting in his room on a desk trying to light a cigarette and being unable to do so because of is love for her and throwing the cigarette out of the window only to feel the vice kick in and he frantically searches for used buds in ash tray to get any one that is even bit left and lights it and takes a deep puff, the audience and he himself realises his own condition has passed no return and with every puff he takes the look of guilt falls on him.

a movie i would recommend just of its simple concept and laughs rating of 6/10

NOTA (2018)

ever been angry at the politicians that run your country and wished for yourself to the chief minister to change the state and your society, this is one such movie that shows this possibility. this is a Tamil movies released in 2018.

the story begins with Varun (Vijay Deverakonda) son of the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, gets to know that for some odd circumstances he has to be the chief minister from sometime in place of his dad Vinothan (Nassar)who is going to go under scrutiny for some Court case. Having come into power all he does is loiter around and stays inside his house signing the required papers basically a puppet C.M. this all changes once he notices a riot breaking out because of his fathers incarceration by party members due to which a kid got killed, this he where he steps into the stage known as politics and shows his desire for the state. all the while he has to control his seat from treats like opposition party, Disaster like floods and the corruption that was caused by his own father’s rule he tackels these issues with help of his advisor Mahendran (Sathyaraj).

Vijay Deverakonda, Sathyaraj, Nassar all did a good job in this movie but for some odd reason they just felt a bit incomplete for unsatisfactory the emotional drama that these cast had between them was just poorly developed for these characters to have a charm to them, as well as some times the characters felt not themselves or had sudden shift in personality.

this was a movie that had the potential to say something to its audience but felt taking the easy way out and feel a bit shallow. the movies has good chances to explore the corruption and struggle of politics by the eyes of a novice like Varun, the movies weakest points are the drama elements it has in it which feel forced and unnecessary for the plot in all. i wont recommend this movie as there are definitely better political drama that have a better narrative than it.

Thugs of Hindostan (2018)

A movie that was so much in hype and anticipation before its release because of the star stubbed cast with high and big credentials on them, it was a sure shot to be box office hit. which it was, but it wasn’t good it was disappointing to see the most expensive Bollywood movie to be only this.

the move tells a story set in 1700’s India when kingdoms and kings were falling to the East India Company, meanwhile a group of thugs lead by Khudabaksh (Amitabh Bachchan) who is is a master commander and warrior, who is the guardian for Zafira (Fatima Sana Shaikh) a daughter to a kingdom that fell to the hands of British Raj by the hands of John Clive (Lloyd Owen). in-between this tug of war of control comes in our two faced protagonist Firangi (Aamir Khan) who is an Indian who dreams of being a Britisher, the name Firangi also is slang word used by Indians for foreigner primarily Britishers. he is a spy that is ready to betray anyone for his interests, thus to tackle this thug problem Clive uses Firangi’s skills to infiltrate the group and cause the death of its members. but after meeting Khudabaksh, Firangi starts having doubts about his alliances and plans to defeat the Britishers, or is it just a trap for the Thugs.

Aamir Khan was good in this movie though the character that he portrayed didn’t feel as special to me as he let on in his interview where he mentioned the reason for signing this movie. Amitabh Bachchan had a presence in this movie but it felt not used properly.
Katrina Kaif was only in this script for the sake of eye candy, really there wasn’t really any reason for he character to be there. Fatima Sana Shaikh felt so bland here as if there just an emo kid in path of revenge and not in a good way.

the showcases the pure waste of such a big, no i mean huge Budget and produce such a mediocre movie. the movie isn’t such a great movie as it was advertised, i think the major reason the movie got such a back lash from the media and its audience is because the cast in it were known for the selections of great movie with nice scrutiny those it the common people it felt that so many star cast wouldn’t make a bad choice with this movie, unfortunately we were wrong this time.

i wouldn’t recommend this movie, sure you can watch for the eye candy and for the reason if you are the fans of these cast, but still i would recommend for any other reason. tag of waste of time, and rate of 4-5/10.

Instant Family (2018)

A heartwarming Story about Adoption and Family.

it begins with us getting introduced to a couple Pete and Ellie (Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne) who end up having the talk about having kids, which leads to them thinking of adopting a kid. after going through the training for being a foster parent for kids when they get a chance to talk and connect with some kids they have a hard time, it isn’t until they meet Lizzy (Isabela Moner) and they decide to be the foster care for her, only to realise She had 2 younger siblings Juan and Lita (Gustavo Escobar and Julianna Gamiz). what starts of as a fun Parenting and gives off a honeymooning feel to the couples, suddenly shifts to the nitty gritty feel of parenting the effort it is and the reward it has. The Couple goes though tough times and good times with the kids to take care of them and be a family.

the cast those a good job, with the 3 kids acting as the pillars for the story Lizzy being the emotional source and driving force for the story, Guan being the comedic relief and Lita being just a cutie.

its just a simple movie that makes you realised not every family is needed to be bonded by blood, love and care for each other is all enough.

do i recommend yes, a movie that should be just so that someone out there gets inspired to try and help some kids like so.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018)

boy oh boy, an American western anthology film which just gets better and better. man what a ride.

there are 6 stories in this movies each of them is a Gem, just a while back i had scene a Malayalam Anthology movie, but in that i could decide on my favourite but here its so tough all had there own charm so much so that i could for the life in chose one thus i say all are the winners, and i am not even saying this to oversell the stories they are just that good.

Story 1 – “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” showcases the adventure of a fast shooting sweet singing Cowboy outlaw Buster Scruggs (Tim Blake Nelson).

Story 2 – “Near Algodones” tells the story of a robber (James Franco) and his luck with a Noose.

Story 3 – “Meal Ticket” and limbless artist (Harry Melling) and his caretaker (Liam Neeson) who go around towns to earn money for their meals.

Story 4 – “All Gold Canyon” an old man (Tom Waits) trying to find gold in a deep valleys that never had seen a human before.

Story 5 – “The Gal Who Got Rattled” story of a Gal (Zoe Kazan) going on the Oregon trail to find a better life there while finding someone better on the trail a life partner (Bill Heck).

Story 6 – “The Mortal Remains” 3 suspicious passengers (Chelcie Ross, Tyne Daly, Saul Rubinek)and 2 bounty hunters (Brendan Gleeson, Jonjo O’Neill) in a never stopping horse carriage.

i haven’t gone into the detail for the sake of the viewer enjoying it as less spoiled as possible.

just the way the stories are put forth and climaxed makes its so fascinating making us want to know more, all the stories start with a drawn sketch of a scene from within the story and with a line below it that makes us curious how it plays into the story, and as the story ends it shows us a last page of the story book that contents these stories, leaving us with only our imagination to fill the future events.

each and every one of the actors give a incredible performance, having the charm that is so necessary to captivate the audience to them in such a movie that lacks much screen time for its actors compared to the usual movies. mostly the performance of
Tim Blake Nelson, Tom Waits, Harry Melling were really something. and so many good supporting roles are there that cant mention them all.

to all meme fans out the ever wonder where this meme came from…..you have the ans now.

First Time……

so do i recommend it, most definitely no doubt it s tag must watch by me and rate of 8/10.

Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

Have you ever wondered what would happen if your Boyfriend/girlfriend was secretly rich. well this movies shows one possible way that works out, it just need you to be smart and the family Asian.

The story is about relationship between Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) and Nick Young (Henry Golding) as Rachel gets introduced to Nicks family who are among the richest families of Singapore. Rachael was aware of Nick’s family, one of the reasons why loved her as she wasn’t like other people around him who loved him for ulterior motives. They where settled in america and visit Singapore for Nicks best friends wedding, at the same time Nick introduces her to his family, especially his mother, Eleanor Young (Michelle Yeoh) who shock isn’t frond of her as she is a very traditional women who thinks of Rachael as a foreigner and someone who wont be able to burden the responsibilities of the family. their relationship is put to test as she is targeted by everyone around Nick as Gold digger, but she keeps fighting and persevering for her love. thus their ideologies get a clash.

Constance Wu and Henry Golding do have a good chemistry about them that has a charm that helps this movie, as if it had felt bland then you can just imagine what type of romantic movie it would be..Michelle Yeoh has such attitude and expression about her in this movie that you will really believe in her characters ideologies, though the movie doesn’t explore he character enough in my opinion.

the movie is a flashy enterprise as it showcases the rich fabulous lifestyle of the posh, giving us spectacular views of Singapore and around. the one problem i have with this movie is that due to a lot of characters in the movie some of them feels shallow as they dont get enough time and effort to develop which gives us even less time for the main cast. though they do a good job overall with it i guess.

do i recommend it well i say sure give it a go if you are into Rom-Coms, the plot isnt that unique but there are fun elements in the movie. a tag of fun watch, and 6/10

Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018)

So finally an animated movie on the list, if you didn’t know i am a big animation fan, i generally catch up on all the animated movies that release, but i had been on a bit of a break from them since a while so coming back to this genre is enjoyable.

the movie is sequel to The Wreck it Ralph (2012) my gosh that was 6 years ago wow. The movie follows up on the life and friendship between main characters, i.e Ralph (a villain from an old game) and Vanellope (from a racing game), oh ya if you didn’t know the premise its basically just like Toy Story except games come to life, with this movie bringing the whole internet to life. in the movie Ralph accidentally causes the breaking of the steering wheel on the arcade game of Venellope this causes the game to be shut down, to save the game the duo decides to go into the internet to get the steering wheel from Ebay (yup this movie is one big ad placement in disguise), which leads to them having to make money on video sharing sites for the wheel, during this time the friendship is tested as the dreams of our protagonists starts to drift as Ralph wants things to go back to usual while vanellope wants to stay in a game on internet and be part of the uncertainty it presents.

the movie is fun to watch and has some good humour to boot, some really well animated scenes and a good message at heart that no matter how life changes and takes its course true friendships perseveres and strengthens, the best part about this movie are the two scenes 1) the whole concept how the internet coming to life its seems so well thought of in a manner that makes sense.

2) was the Disney princesses scene which had taken the internet with storm upon its release in the trailer, this scene showcases Disney using its characters to full power, not only are there Disney princesses but also star-wars, whiny the pooh so much more also Stan Lee is there. the interaction between the princesses and Vanellope about her being a princess is also well done.

i didn’t go into it expecting much to being with as i have never been to much of a fan of animated sequels as they for me dont do much, the case as the same here to some extent. yet this is a fun movie to watch a sure a recommend just for heck of it.
