Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)

A classic comedy that is a must watch teen movie.the story follows the titular character Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) on his plan to skip a day of school, and how he goes about his day.

we start of with Ferris breaking the forth wall and explaining to the audience how and what techniques he thinks are the best to play sick to parents to get a day off from school. then we get introduced to the antagonist of this story the principal of the school Ferris go to and he is someone who as a vendetta again Ferris, upon knowing about his absence he know kids like Ferris is unto no good and wants to catch him red-handed. Ferris convinces his best friend Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck) for a day out and makes up a fake grandma death to get his girlfriend Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara) early leave from the class. this trio then steal ahem i mean borrow Cameron’s dad’s restored Ferrari and drive it around the city visiting restaurants and museums and baseball games, all while evading getting caught and having fun. this is where we are told why Ferris decided to have a day off. soon they will all graduate and go their separate paths, Sloane who is his junior would still be in high school when he graduates, Cameron who doesn’t stand up to his parents is always sick because of it so Ferris wanted to have his friend have a great day to enjoy. now as the day comes to a close we have them all saying good-byes and Ferris having to run back home in time before his parents reach to save his day.

the story is a very simple teen movie and that is its charm, we can see the actors genuinely having fun as their characters and it shows. unlike a lot of the teen movies that utilise bathroom humour as jokes this movie simply using situations as a comic relief. the 4th wall breaks are fun and you cant forget the iconic post credit scene. yes they existed before Marvel started the trend and Deadpool post credit scene is a homage to this one.

the movie has surely aged in some aspects but it captures its inner thoughts beautifully, i do understand the movie might not be for everyone, but i laughed my heart out while watching it and that is what counts. a rating of 8/10 and a tag of must watch.

100 Days of Love (2015)

A Malayalam Romantic movie that had a promising start but by end left a unsatisfied feel.

the story starts with our main character B.K.N. (), who tells the audience about the story being his 100 days countdown to his love. day one starts with his worst day of life getting fired and going into a drunk rant on Facebook because of his ex girlfriend. on such a bad day the glimmer of hope comes in form of a strangers smile, the owner of this smile was a lady Sheela (), he meets while trying to catch a cab. before he realised she left in the cab a left a old camera behind. he develops the photos and tries to find her using the photos as clues. after getting some headway on the photos, he finally hits a dead end. this is where fate intervenes and he finds her by chance, here is the big twist given to us that they know each other in childhood as be has once bullied her, and she had taken revenge against him. but having left past behind they start again as friends. we get to know that Sheela has a boyfriend and B.K witnessing the proposal of the boyfriend to Sheela causes him to go into a drunken proposal mode for Sheela. Finally telling her she would be happier with him. realising she has feeling for B.K she breaks the engagement with her boyfriend and goes off with B.K.

now this was a story line that had so much potential as it started it felt interesting and unique but near after the intermission the things started to fall apart, the search with photos basically lead nowhere, and to me that was the best aspect of the movie which seemed not properly explored. the sudden and unjustified change in the feelings also feels so forced though not entirely unheard in such Indian movies but still it sticks out like a sore thumb.

i would recommend this movie as a romantic movie worth watching as time pass, as it isn’t as bad as i might try to imply. there are fun moments that do keep it enjoyable.

My Cousin Rachel (2017 )

A Romantic-Drama ,adaptations of a Novel by the same name by Daphne du Maurier that was published in 1951.

the story, Philip (Sam Claflin) upon hearing the news of his cousins death and suspecting his late cousin’s wife Rachel (Rachel Weisz) to be the culprit, plans to confront her and plot revenge. Philip was an orphan and was brought up by his cousin to whom he was very close too. thus when he meets Rachel for the first time he is conflicted as he is smitten to her charm and beauty, but she is still a suspect in his cousins demise. with every interaction they have every Philip keeps on falling in love with her. his starts taking drastic actions because of his love, even when others around him keep telling him to stop, and when finally Philip confesses Rachael she never love him and they cant ever be. this causes Philip to get into alcohol to ease his pains. this is the time when previously forgotten doubt about his cousin death comes back to him, he becomes paranoid and decides to get her killed and find the evidence. he does succeeds in killing but not in finding the evidence, thus forever get haunted for his choice about Rachael.

the movies tries to keep the audience on a tip-toe (not to does who have read the original novel it is based off) whether or not Rachel was a culprit in Philip’s condition or his cousins death. the movies keeps giving us hints that lead to either conclusion, but ends a in a bit ambiguous manner so that the audience would have to decide for themselves.

Rachel Weisz‘s acting was good in this movie and she did sell the character to the audience, in a manner that we couldn’t be ever sure what her true interests were. the pace of the movie itself is kept fast to prevent dulling the tension and keep the audience guessing.

this is a good movie, maybe not exceptional but nonetheless good to watch rating it 5/10.

The Reader (2008)

like i always say 2008 was a year of a lot of good movies, and this one follows the trend. A movie that showcases the aftermath of a relationship after a horrible secret is out.

the story follows a lawyer (Ralph Fiennes) who reminisce about his younger days, when he as a young boy (David Kross) meet his first love by random chance, this middle aged lady (Kate Winslet) he meet helped in out. this lead to him and her meeting again and them starting to have feeling for each other. she loved to hear him read out storys from novels to her, and this became there thing. now this 15 year old boy was experiencing his first love and was head over heels about her. until one day she suddenly vanishes. the boy pursues law, one day when visiting a court preceding for the Nazi war criminals he see his first love standing in the defenders stand, and reality strikes him. this causes him to feel spilt about her and conflicted to help her when she takes the full blame of the charges even though by holding back information that proves her innocence. thus she gets sentenced to jail, as a grown up the lawyer feels guilty and as repentance starts sending her voice recording of him reading the stories to her. they meet each other after nearly 20 years, but his conflicting feelings about her causes him to distant him from her. which leads to her committing suicide.

the acting is nicely done in this movie, Kate winslet was really good in this movie and played her character brilliantly. the movie does dwell in to the aspect of the atrocities by the Nazi and how only certain people were being held responsible just to pass the blame on to certain people. how the proceedings were just a way to get someone to take the blame and wrap everything up.

this is a good movie, a recommend to those who are into such a story-line which dwells onto the characters choices and conflicting desires. a rating of 7/10.

Hall Pass (2011)

A American comedy film staring Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis, who are 2 husbands well in the marriage who still the are still the hot shit they were back in college and can get any girl they want. this obsession of theirs causes their wives to think that giving them a hall pass might be the solution. A hall pass is a a week off from marriage technically a approval from the wife for the husbands to have affair. But as the story progresses we get to see how much the guys are incapable at this and hall pass are not only for the husband but also for the wives.

now the favourite scene in this movie is the montage of night went wrong scene that is shown during the credits so what this scene holds is after the hall pass is shown to have been effective in fixing the marriages of his friends, Gary (a friend of the protagonist) gets asked by his wife if he would like to get one, at this point he starts imagining himself having a affair, getting caught by husband, fighting the husband and killing him, burying the body, killing the lady he had affair with because she weak willed, seen in act by grandma so does the same with her, then seen by a group of guys, so runs from cops gets caught, shares an jail cell with a gay criminal, gets raped. at this point he comes out of the dream and says sure why not. A scene definitely should watch for fun.

the most surprising thing about this movie is that its made by the same directors producer writer of the academy best picture of this year Green Book. this info shocked me the most not because this movie is bad in any way its just that i wouldn’t have imagined this to be the case in my wildest dreams.

a silly comedy for watch just for chilling, a rating of 5/10.

Race 3 (2018)

An action movie that you must watch with your mind switched off and laws of physics forgotten.

just yesterday i watched some good action sequences and today this (face-palm) there are not words to describe effort i had to put through to see this. just for the sake of action one action sequence goes to other with a sprinkle for uninteresting drama and songs in between the movie and Ta-Da a movie specifically a Race 3 movie.

the story follows a arms exporter family’s head (Anil Kapoor) and his son, daughter and adopted son(Salman Khan). As the legitimate offspring are envious of their fathers love for the adopted they plot to get him killed. unaware he himself is already aware of their intentions and is manoeuvring around it so that no harm comes to the family. the story gets more complex multiple backstabbing takes place. until we reach the epic conclusion where the grand reveal tells us that all the kids are of the same mother and the father they knew wasn’t the real one, but the person responsible for their biological fathers death.

the story by itself isn’t bad put the pace and the internal plots just make it to haphazard to make it fell fulfilling. the jarring transitions and songs that just break any tension that could be achieved just makes you lose interest. now why i say forget the laws of physics well that is because they forgot the laws when filming the sequences as well as the concept of moderation. there is is scene where the family head fires onto a person riding a bike travelling towards him which causes him to burst into flames, not even as if the bike burst no the person burst into flames. another of these great scene is the scene where our main character the Adopted son holds a literal rocket launcher in his hands to shoot at cars to blow them away. scenes where everyone just happens to be wearing base jumping suits what an convenience.

i never have been fan of this series but sure it makes a ton of money so it would definitely get made more just like how the end scene had in mind by proposing a sequel. watch at your own discretion.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018)

if you are unaware of the franchise mission impossible or the story of Ethan hunt, man you have been living under a rock.

the sixth instalment in the mission impossible series, that tells the story of a Impossible Missions Force (IMF) and its agent Ethan hunt played by the still active Tom Cruise. in this particular movie the plot starts with Ethan losing plutonium cores that can be used for mass destruction across the world. to retrieve them back he has to work with CIA operatives, who mind you have there own agendas. this plot gets even thickened when we get to know that CIA thinks Ethan hunt is the main mastermind behind all the mess that has been created, all the while there are CIA agents who themselves are rouge.

A confusing plot yes, but definitely a action packed one a sure watch for the fix of action that many surly crave or otherwise this series wont be among the highest grossing series of all time.

the various action sequences of this movie are so fun to watch from aerial jumps where Ethan gets jolted by lightning, helicopter chase, car chases, bike chases, literal chases there are a lot of chases by the way this series cant be whole without the famous Tom cruise running sequence which it and does it in a very fun way. there is the sequence in that which literally caused tom to break a leg to perform just for the enjoyment of us audience. just a tip if you want to watch it you can as it was in the take and in slow-mo you can even see his ankle bending a little too much.

the infamous jump.

this series is one of the few action movies that still utilise the practical stunts for its sequences, evident from Tom’s leg break to the effort put into the Sky dive sequence. it is a movie that keeps making in money and keeps the audience entertained, and as long as Tom got the power in the legs to run (for those amazing running sequence) this series isn’t dying anytime soon.

Sudani from Nigeria (2018)

a simple hearth warming slice of life movie.

the movie is about the local football club manager (Soubin Shahir) and his relation with one of his players a Nigerian footballer (Samuel Abiola Robinson) who came to India to play in clubs to make money. upon a incident that causes Samuel to get injured and forced him to bed rest in to the managers house. now the manager has to make ends meet as well as take care of his star player.

the movie showcases the realistic life of such football club managers and its players, many of which come from far away places leaving their family behind so they can earn the money for the better live. this is what forms the emotional line of the story as Samuel love and effort of his family is seen by the manager gets him to open up and accept his step father.

my favourite part of this is the way the community reacts upon seeing a African amongst their mist, a scene where a couple come only to take selfie with injured Samuel was funny at the same time felt like something that would genuinely happen in our country.

a movie i would recommend for its simple and hearth warming premise.

Hate Story 3 (2015)

the third instalment in the hate story franchise, now if you are not aware of this franchise which is famous or infamous for its steamy scenes in its movies, and honestly there isn’t much else to them.

the story starts with a highly successful businessman (Sharman Joshi) who seems to have it all: money, style and love. but all seems to fall apart as soon as a rival (Karan Singh Grover) appears who is only ready to stop causing the problems if the wife (Zareen Khan) of the Businessman agrees for a one night stand, that just not the whole picture as another twist awaits.

now like i begin the blog with this one is not a movie with much substance in the first place the only reason i know why people watch this is for the scenes in it and literally nothing else. the story was so bland that i could see all the twist a mile away. the acting was so one dimensional, nearly all the characters had only one face for all emotion.

honestly knew this movie was a disaster before i watched it i it stands true even now. not recommending it at all, but sure go ahead for the steamy scenes are nice.

Raazi (2018)

A gem of a movie that puts forth a realistic spy thriller, with a tight narrative and brilliant acting.

This story is set in the time indo-pak war of 1971 a tells the story of a Sehmat played by Alia Bhatt, who marries into a Pakistan generals household to act as a spy and relay any information she can acquire to the other side during this turbulent period. She takes up this risky role because her father was a spy and had been diagnosed with cancer and as his last request asked her to do this for her country. the story showcases here struggles and choices she had to make for her country and her duty.

the pace of the movie is kept at a were tight and smooth rate with little to no time for sappy unnecessary drama to break the tension. the acting is really good in the movie kudos to alia bhatt and Vicky Kaushal for there fabulous performance.

the best thing this movie does is showcases humans as humans and fixate on showing the Pakistani army as only filled with bad people, as we see for the Sehmat’s husband (played by Vicky Kaushal) who is a gentle and considerate person, at the same time it doesn’t dignify every action of the Indian intelligence as just, as they were ever ready to eliminate Sehmat if need be. this realistic and genuine portrayals allows all the actions and choices by the characters to have a weight and realism to it, and threads a thin line to show the duality that exists in war.

A very entertaining movie to watch and definite recommend.
