Ted 2 (2015)

I had just watched the 1st part yesterday and thought why not watch the sequel today, as i watched the film a thought popped up maybe the reason i enjoyed the previous film as much was may be the fact it displaced my opinion, but this film felt generic from the get go.

here the story is that  Mark Wahlberg has gotten divorced and Ted (Seth MacFarlane) who fight for his right as a person (to those who forgot ted is a plush toy a literal teddy bear came to life) in court with a novice attorney Amanda Seyfried

this film falls into the very common issue that a sequel to a film that need none and planned none faces that is solved by bring out a story out of the ass. this generally goes in a very generic pattern of comedy other elements sprinkled throughout.

does it have good parts yes i guess so, if i had to choose the cameo and post credit scene of Liam Neeson would be my pick.

this film might be better catered to those that liked the prequel or Seth MacFarlane style comedy. again a lazy Saturday type film.

Ted (2012)

now i remeber the time this film was released i remeber seeming its poster in the theaters when i went to watch other films, yet i never felt to interested to sit down watch this till today. i was under the impression this was like all teddy bear related films aimed at children about parents and their children coming close due to there shared interest or love from something or a teddy.

the amount by which i was off was so huge that the film took me by complete surprise, to those who haven’t watched it the story goes like this a child wishes to have his teddy come to life which happens and now they both grow up in to adults and stay best friends the fact one is one is a man child in a adults body and other is a man child inside a teddy’s body.

other that the initial shock of having expected something else of the movie everything else well every generic comedy material down to the romantic aspect, the choice of choosing love over friendship clique, is it bad no but its a simple lazy watch for a Saturday afternoon.

night night…

i couldn’t point it out first but all through out the film i had this feeling this movie seems so similar yet i was sure i haven’t watch anything particularly like this, it wasn’t until i sat down to write this and went through the IMDb page that i got the eureka moment, Seth MacFarlane was the director writer and voice of the titular character, it was this comedic tone that i have experienced in Family Guy.

so in the simplest sense if u have enjoyed family guy this film might be similarly enjoyable to you.

Grown Ups 2 (2013)

after seeing Adam ,now back in his element is both a odd and enjoyable experience and i am not talking about the film, its stupid it knows it and it markets itself so. it would be more stupidity to watch this sequel with any other belief in mind.

the prequel was meh but still had had enough monetary momentum to allow itself to give birth to this. i don’t have much film making talent but when the sequel of a movie that itself seems like a bar napkin idea creates a offspring to just for those green bills warning signs should be going on.

what i like about this film…………..mmmmm………..mmmmmmm…………yes the end credits that was fun rest of the film i was on autopilot mode, super cruise mode even after viewing it the only thing i remember is blur of images that i would rather forget to make space for the periodic table.

Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House (2002)

this is bad film……its a very blatant name nostalgia film, with being not funny and character inconsistences and a below par basic script.

Home Alone is in many ways a classic film that most 90s kids know of and beloved movie for its charm. Home alone 2 is fine doesn’t compare to one but has the same charm with a bit more plot contrivance still is enjoyable. now Home alone 3 is meh (i liked it a lot as kid it was fun) but overall its still meh at best with story being totally new characters with only the plot being similar. in a way this change was enjoyable to me as even as a kid to believe that Kevin can get 3 times home alone to ward off thieves all by himself was a stretch.

now you might be wondering what is this Home Alone 4 got to add to the series, 4 continues the story of Kevin yes 3rd time but whats makes this fun is technically this is continuation of the first 2 films but no old cast is re appearing thus new faces but old characters. this by itself is not that bad but come on the script is so bad Fake Kevin (Mike Weinberg) is not even home alone this film just so easily feels cheap in its execution that i developed new appreciation for the previous films. the characters seem so hammy that even if they tried we never come to know or love to see them. honestly there isn’t point adding more its a movie watchable yes, should you no.

i guess the saving grace of this film is i could watch it at 4x speed and still not miss anything of value.

First Man (2018)

1969 the world witnessed a event that was something akin to fantasy turn into reality Man on the Moon a scene i i never witness myself (for obvious reasons). it was something that was mug up by us younglings for the sake exams so many times.thinking about it I do feel jealous of all that witnessed it live the feeling might have been so unique in itself.

the Film portrays the life of the Neil Armstrong (Ryan Gosling)…and i don’t need to explain who he is and is basically the story of the mans life before the moon.

slow down there boy for a second thought we in a action movie.

the grandeur of space movies was something that is common spectacle of all the space oriented movies yet that this film holds itself back till the last moment to go there with technical and visual effects till then was more focused more on the human aspects and story that not many know of the man the first stepped on the lunar surface.

the point that i mentioned above can be also used to dishearten its viewer also as i upon my initial hr of the film was thinking the film feels slow and very bland, especially compared to what i was expecting but as the film develops the character and unravels the story and trauma of Neil we come to a better and maybe generally overlooked aspects of extraordinary people, that they to have lived a very human life. and that to me what made this film beautify it could have easily been about the landing more than anything but sticks more closely to the man than the mission.

the only issue that i found in this film and in many sense it could be nit picky is the lack of glamour and a tone that the film utilises create a sense of alienation to the film and its characters initially that does subsides as the story progresses.

Joker (2019)

i had watched this film in theaters last year but had totally forgotten that i hadn’t wrote about it here only to realise when counting down my 1-100 films of the mammoth task. so here we are i re-watched it to have some better sense of any thing i forgot so lets go.

right of the bat few hot takes kinda, i didn’t think this film needed to be about joker, i mean the fact this film is using joker is to attract superhero fans that are currently dominating the market to sell a character driven story. i remember having this real intense emotion about the film after my initial viewing that the film didn’t need to have a character joker to have said messages of metal issues and any man can go crazy and cause a revolution.

lets put a smile on your face…..

the fact this film is pseudo original is both a advantage and disadvantage.

3 things against it

  • the ending was something i saw coming for a while, might not have been evident for everybody like my friends that watched with.
  • being heavily inspired from works of Martin Scorsese the imprint of them is visible through out the film and to those that see it clearly i wager the impact of the film might damper a bit.
  • adding the Wayne death scene, i know its iconic and the use of the scene in the film has its own narrative and fan service value. i for one felt that scene just like adding a cherry to the cake i didn’t want.
well this scene escalated

3 things going for this film

  • soundtrack its haunting and eerie as it always works subconsciously, this was something i didn’t even think about or notice until came out of the theater and my friend pointed it out. such subtle effect is truely masterful.
  • and the reason i didn’t notice the sound well obviously the acting, Joaquin Phoenix throwing his hat into the best joker bowl and coming in strong. i had high expectations since i saw the trailers and being not let down at all.
  • the atmosphere the way the city of Gotham was visualised garbage bags dark tone and simply beautiful city that keeps looking like a day away from crumbling.

by improving and utilizing existing aspects the film has the ability to seem similar and unique together and the fact the core is strong and external additives is nurtured the film definitely is worthy being called a great film even if i have my reservations about it.

i will see myself out

The Meyerowitz Stories (2017)

i like comedy movies like most people i presume, few names are very synonymous with this genre like Adam Sandler, i wanted a light movie and looking at the cast of this film i was under the impression the film would the usual Sandler films lazy jokes and script but i was in for a surprise i sure didn’t read the whole cast list nor the films valuation.

i will say right of the bat best Sandler film (i am aware Uncut Gems (2019) exists but i haven’t watched it yet), since he alone does shoulder the film and acts his part so convincingly i was only left to wonder where was this skill hidden in his filmography, this was something everyone in the cast brought the characters in the film feel real enough that u can project people you know from your life into them. and the dialogue man, i can eerily remember having conversation derailing of topic with both parties talking over each other, its such a unusual thing to see in movies yet the fact its here makes the conversations between the two brothers and their fathers always feel so genuine to and fro that can happen to anyone. the effective grounding techniques is really worth admiring when used to effortlessly. credit where credit is due to Noah Baumbach (writer director).

teacher asks me question me dumfounded, poker-face and go to sleep mode

the film might not be for everyone with the dialogues and dysfunctional family drama style, but its one the few i recommend just so that more eyes fall on this great movie.

Brightburn (2019)

now if you have not watched this film, i want you to close your eyes (not literally otherwise you wouldn’t be able to read) and imagine…… a couple finds a boy from some unknown planet arriving in their backyard, adopting him. as the kid grow they realise the kid is different from other he has super powers but also a mean attitude that makes him do bad things………

now if you tell me that sound minus that last part like superman, i would say yes that’s exactly like that. well congratulation what u imagined is the film primes of Brightburn (2019).

i was recommend this film so, did it live up to that simply put NO but its still a fun concept mix of horror and superhero genre is pretty fun has potential, but the film just falls short to make itself memorable enough other than the premise i mostly wont remember much about this film in the coming weeks and that just says to me the lack of execution to the fullest potential of such a idea.

the fact that the film takes and paces itself as a origin story for this future villain/bad guy, allows the film to utilize our exposure and knowledge of the Superman origins with a different take, the film still pulls itself back from going all in into the gore and horror using as just a salad dressing that main course and this withdrawal does diminish the final product.

well it was nice to see they followed the super hero troupe possible interconnected sequel.

and finally the pancha films that i loved enough to remember even now.

well that’s it, nothing special many better films may have been omitted but well my list so muhahahahahaha

The Curse of La Llorona (2019)

hello dear readers today i am happy to announce that for the the first time while watching a horror film filled with jump scares i wasn’t scared or jumpy……huh wonder that looks bad on me or the film.

now my being not scared should be mostly associated to me watching more horror films than normal over the past few years that i have become a bit immunized to its effects and tropes. but this film even though having a good enough horror story never felt it capitalized on it.

the film feels sanitised in its portrayal, it has a child killing ghost and yet the film never thats the leap to make the dread seems palatable to the audience. all the ghost does it jump from blind spots, why doesn’t it do the one thing we are told it like to do even all the opportunity it gets. i couldn’t in my right-mind sit and watch this film and feel scared as i was more invested to find why the film was made so, because that seemed more pressing to me that the wedding dress wearing ghost that just cant kill kids suddenly. the whole film is just things happening for the sake of thing happening and its so to your face u cant ignore that. and by god why to horror movies show the faces of the ghost so clearly as in a photoshoot seriously once i know for sure it looks like a lady with runny makeup the scares don’t hit the hard (not like they were hitting anyways)

prior to writing this i wasn’t aware of the fact that this film is part of the Conjuring Universe franchise, which is a bit disheartening to me as i was really a fan of the original films that Kickstarted this trend i guess, with every film now being made fit the universe, i feel films are using the old hits to lure people to the new ones that are made for no reason and have nothing to say on their own.
