Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)

their are various objects, smells phases and many more that have the ability to transport a person to an era where worries boiled down to the simpler things. A term i read in a article long back Objects of Innocence one of my favourite phases.

Jumanji is one such phase, i fondly remember the film. as a child i oh so dreamed about having a chance to play the game have fun with real life adventure, a world of fantasy and wildlife that was just out there.

I have always been spilt on the concepts of sequels or spin offs that in many ways are trying to capitalise on the nostalgia market, i don’t condemn them yet they just never sit well. As such any critic or value of the film I see tends to coated by a layer of biases. The film is over all a fun ride the charisma of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan along with the chemistry they generate can be called the true core of the film. As for the story i am not really on board with it, it just does the bare minimum to save the Jumanji name and give itself a reason to use it.

Now all in all if someone asks me was it fun I will say Yes, if someone asks me to recommend a game like film would I, Yes, and was it better than the first NO (imo).

Kick-Ass 2 (2013)

When i first watched Kick ass (2010) i was in high school and super heroes where things of comics and cartoons, thus seeing a movie about superhero origins along with being subversive and Bloodier than norm pushed it to ranks of films i greatly enjoyed.

i wasn’t aware of a sequel to it until i saw the movie poster during a visit to the cinemas for some other random film, and i distinctly remember feel this is not gonna turn out to be good. I don’t know what psychic powers i unlocked for a moment there but after so many years i was RIGHT.

Kick-Ass 2 all in all feels like a fan made film about the first one than an actual sequel. there is this tonal dissonance the film has that always just persists. the first film felt more linearly amping up the stakes to the eventually climax of bazooka to the main boss, without truly feeling jarring yet the sequel doesn’t understand this lesson and adds divergent plot points to make you question the movie genre itself. over the multiple characters, limp humour, cringe and a serious lack of finding the flow it would be really hard to say i enjoyed this film.

all this could be me being cynical and remembering the first film in rose tinted glasses. yet for my money Kick Ass 2 is another victim of the sequel curse.

De De Pyaar De (2019)

the film is Hindi 2019 Rom-Com, telling the story of a 50yr old man (Ajay Devgn) falling in love with a 26yr old women (Rakul Preet Singh), and the lies and deceptions that ensues when his family and ex-wife (Tabu) disapproves this relationship

the films biggest weak point is its script, while the merit of the initial plot is understandable the execution of it over the run time makes its hard pill to swallow, the main relationship never felt organic to me and it was a cornerstone requirement for such a film that basis itself on the hurdles of such a relation. when the relationships are shown to the audience with a shallow understanding it becomes hard to sympathise to the leads hurdles that comfort.

Tabu was the highlight of the film I guess its a very unanimous choice for most viewers as her chemistry with Ajay Devgn is in essence what prevents the film from slogging. this chemistry covers the lack of fleshing out of the script regards to their past yet makes it all so believable that they once were together.

the film has its moment and isn’t a slog to get through but in many aspects trimming and fleshing out of the story might have done wonders for it.

Paddington 2 (2017)

a sequel in many ways the hardest thing to do after the success of the 1st film, there is just so much that can go wrong just so much expectation to balance. yet if the balance is perfect the result might stun everyone.

i loved part one and 2 just added the cherry that’s even i didn’t know i wanted. what can i even say about this film its just so good. the best way i can say is heart, only the great sequels remember to not lose the heart of the original as sequel is made and stuff get added. Paddington 2 has its predecessors heart and charm and builds upon it with same vigor and passion. if you saw the 1st the 2nd is no-brainers.

it not only has the heart but also adds its own narrative tot he world it created, where 1st film was a passive story of Paddington facing challenges thrown at him, 2 involves his own action and becomes active storytelling with his quest to find thew book. with its colourful sets and characters it never fails to set the smile back to your face.

my 4th bear or teddy bear related film of the week and probably the last for some time and glad it was sweet.

Paddington (2014)

have you ever had marmalade, i haven’t but this film sure makes me want to try it.

how i imagine marmalade is as sweet citrusy jam and in many ways the apt description of this film. it would be so hard to find people that have negative to say about this film its a children’s film yes but taken care to give itself character and aura that anyone can enjoy and leave after watching it with a smile.

the story is about a young bear with the ability to speak and think leaving his home to go to London, and finding a abode among the Brown Family, with his presence brightens up their life.

the film is based of the works of Michael Bond, though i haven’t never had a prior exposure to his works i whole heartedly think this was very faithful rendition to his character. the naive but overly lovable cuddly bear and his escapade and new experience, the colourful film will always keep the show moving with vibrant shots and scenes allowing your eyes to move through the scene and gather so much information about the characters and the surrounding so easily.

the characters and charming and well casted with aura everyone being to the table is up there. best part about the film would be its ability to appeal to everyone from children to adult it never finds itself in a need to pander any demographic.

this is a hearty cozy Sunday film.

My Mom’s New Boyfriend (2008)

after 2 continuous Seth comedies i wanted to see another style of comedy to ease or wash down the taste and surfing though the sites i though to use the filters and set 2008 the year i consider the best film year, and randomizing other filters i end up with a list in which this films title caught my eye, why you ask it was so similar to the blue film titles that i just got intrigued.

right off the bat this is another lazy Saturday film

its a story about a FBI agent (Colin Hanks) getting assigned to case where his own mothers (Meg Ryan) new boyfriend (Antonio Banderas) is a suspected art thief, and the awkward situation that arises through it.

the fact is the film initially seems interesting, it has the genic points through out but all in all its starts strong, but ones Antonio gets introduced you cant help but guess how the film will follow through and it irritates me that the film chooses such a simple and easy to see through choice Spoilers Antonio was actually CIA undercover agent dramatic music please. now not only this reveals fault the film itself lacks enough momentum to carry the plot forward and seems out of things to do as the film reaches its climax and then winds its out in a very underwhelming manner. well the only saving grace was i had none expectations from the get go, and going the save route left no means to attack the film, that’s that i guess.

Ted 2 (2015)

I had just watched the 1st part yesterday and thought why not watch the sequel today, as i watched the film a thought popped up maybe the reason i enjoyed the previous film as much was may be the fact it displaced my opinion, but this film felt generic from the get go.

here the story is that  Mark Wahlberg has gotten divorced and Ted (Seth MacFarlane) who fight for his right as a person (to those who forgot ted is a plush toy a literal teddy bear came to life) in court with a novice attorney Amanda Seyfried

this film falls into the very common issue that a sequel to a film that need none and planned none faces that is solved by bring out a story out of the ass. this generally goes in a very generic pattern of comedy other elements sprinkled throughout.

does it have good parts yes i guess so, if i had to choose the cameo and post credit scene of Liam Neeson would be my pick.

this film might be better catered to those that liked the prequel or Seth MacFarlane style comedy. again a lazy Saturday type film.

Ted (2012)

now i remeber the time this film was released i remeber seeming its poster in the theaters when i went to watch other films, yet i never felt to interested to sit down watch this till today. i was under the impression this was like all teddy bear related films aimed at children about parents and their children coming close due to there shared interest or love from something or a teddy.

the amount by which i was off was so huge that the film took me by complete surprise, to those who haven’t watched it the story goes like this a child wishes to have his teddy come to life which happens and now they both grow up in to adults and stay best friends the fact one is one is a man child in a adults body and other is a man child inside a teddy’s body.

other that the initial shock of having expected something else of the movie everything else well every generic comedy material down to the romantic aspect, the choice of choosing love over friendship clique, is it bad no but its a simple lazy watch for a Saturday afternoon.

night night…

i couldn’t point it out first but all through out the film i had this feeling this movie seems so similar yet i was sure i haven’t watch anything particularly like this, it wasn’t until i sat down to write this and went through the IMDb page that i got the eureka moment, Seth MacFarlane was the director writer and voice of the titular character, it was this comedic tone that i have experienced in Family Guy.

so in the simplest sense if u have enjoyed family guy this film might be similarly enjoyable to you.

Grown Ups 2 (2013)

after seeing Adam ,now back in his element is both a odd and enjoyable experience and i am not talking about the film, its stupid it knows it and it markets itself so. it would be more stupidity to watch this sequel with any other belief in mind.

the prequel was meh but still had had enough monetary momentum to allow itself to give birth to this. i don’t have much film making talent but when the sequel of a movie that itself seems like a bar napkin idea creates a offspring to just for those green bills warning signs should be going on.

what i like about this film…………..mmmmm………..mmmmmmm…………yes the end credits that was fun rest of the film i was on autopilot mode, super cruise mode even after viewing it the only thing i remember is blur of images that i would rather forget to make space for the periodic table.

Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House (2002)

this is bad film……its a very blatant name nostalgia film, with being not funny and character inconsistences and a below par basic script.

Home Alone is in many ways a classic film that most 90s kids know of and beloved movie for its charm. Home alone 2 is fine doesn’t compare to one but has the same charm with a bit more plot contrivance still is enjoyable. now Home alone 3 is meh (i liked it a lot as kid it was fun) but overall its still meh at best with story being totally new characters with only the plot being similar. in a way this change was enjoyable to me as even as a kid to believe that Kevin can get 3 times home alone to ward off thieves all by himself was a stretch.

now you might be wondering what is this Home Alone 4 got to add to the series, 4 continues the story of Kevin yes 3rd time but whats makes this fun is technically this is continuation of the first 2 films but no old cast is re appearing thus new faces but old characters. this by itself is not that bad but come on the script is so bad Fake Kevin (Mike Weinberg) is not even home alone this film just so easily feels cheap in its execution that i developed new appreciation for the previous films. the characters seem so hammy that even if they tried we never come to know or love to see them. honestly there isn’t point adding more its a movie watchable yes, should you no.

i guess the saving grace of this film is i could watch it at 4x speed and still not miss anything of value.
