Why Him? (2016)

every once in a while you need to watch bad film, to appreciate the good ones is something i say in my head often. I sit down to review this movie and Spoilers I didnt like it.

the movie is all about A family meeting the the boyfriend of Daughter for the first time and then getting to know that he is not just the boyfriend he is her fiance, something that the Dad doesn’t agree to. this is as simple as i need to express this movie for if you have been watching this genre of movies for a while you might have already come across many films with the father-vs.-fiancé formula done in different iterations, this just being one of them but in my opinion not the best one.

the family, made of the Father (Bryan Cranston – yes the same Breaking Bad one) the owner of the Printing company, the loving mother (Megan Mullally) their son (Griffin Gluck) among the first supporters of his sisters (Zoey Deutch) relationship with the fiance (James Franco) the eccentric tech millionaire, who dreams of becoming a family with them. the whole movie is about his actics that make him less disable to the father while showing enough charm to win approval of other members of the family. and how everything ends as happy ever after.

the movie which without is silly antics would have felt a bit more cohesive and simple maybe not great but more bearable than what it currently is. it felt like there was no reason for me to sit and watch this, to see the star of breaking bad seem so silly and mind you know Bryan Cranston is a great actor and also has experience with comedy but why choose this script it is so bland it humour derived by silly gags, James Franco just seemed his usual self as seem in alot of the comedy movies he has been the part of few years. though it is the usual thing you see in such movie, i guess it just something that didn’t gel with me.

Game Night (2018)

the story about a couple Max (Jason Bateman) and Annie (Rachel McAdams) who both are competitive by nature regards to everything especially games of any sorts, it is especially how their relationship began, so they and there group of friends (Sharon Horgan,Billy Magnussen,Lamorne Morris,Kylie Bunbury) have game nights every once in a while and everything was good until Max’s brother Brooks (Kyle Chandler) comes to town, Max has always been afraid of his brother and wasn’t comfortable in his presence for he always wins whenever they competed in any games, having a complex because of his brothers insane skill in games.

thus one such game night Brooks asks Max and friends to indulge in a new game, one in which he is kidnapped and they need to solve the riddle to save him thus in-turn winning a prize. this is when a shocking turn of events happen instead of fake kidnappers as per the game real one show up as Brooks was involved in some shady stuff. thinking the game has started the gang splits up to win the prize slowly discovering they had gotten themselves in more trouble than they thought.

the movie does have some fun scenes but also a lot of not so much scenes, placing it on the list for the movie you watch when there isn’t much else to see. it is the comedy movie that a free Friday and tub of popcorn is perfect for.

The Layover (2017)

this is not a good movie and being honest here the only reason i watched it was fir the 2 lead actresses Kate Upton and Alexandra Daddario.

the story is about two best friends Meg and Kate (Kate Upton and Alexandra Daddario) after a bad day decide on a spontaneous trip for self discovery too solve their problems, Meg is a outdooris free spirited girl while Kate is a reclused shy girl but both have their wild side and this side comes out when during their flight they meet a handsome man by the name Ryan (Matt Barr). as it becomes evident that both are eyeing the same man they try their hardest to leave a impression on him. this is when a great chance is presented to them in the order of a hurricane than grounds their flight thus allowing them to meet and interact more, but this only increases the competition between the girls who now are fighting with nothing held back to the point of breaking their friendship.

it is just a chick flick trying to showcase the concept of friendship between two girls getting tested because of a guy. the only reason for the recommend would be for the Cast, i dont think there is any other to watch.

Instant Family (2018)

A heartwarming Story about Adoption and Family.

it begins with us getting introduced to a couple Pete and Ellie (Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne) who end up having the talk about having kids, which leads to them thinking of adopting a kid. after going through the training for being a foster parent for kids when they get a chance to talk and connect with some kids they have a hard time, it isn’t until they meet Lizzy (Isabela Moner) and they decide to be the foster care for her, only to realise She had 2 younger siblings Juan and Lita (Gustavo Escobar and Julianna Gamiz). what starts of as a fun Parenting and gives off a honeymooning feel to the couples, suddenly shifts to the nitty gritty feel of parenting the effort it is and the reward it has. The Couple goes though tough times and good times with the kids to take care of them and be a family.

the cast those a good job, with the 3 kids acting as the pillars for the story Lizzy being the emotional source and driving force for the story, Guan being the comedic relief and Lita being just a cutie.

its just a simple movie that makes you realised not every family is needed to be bonded by blood, love and care for each other is all enough.

do i recommend yes, a movie that should be just so that someone out there gets inspired to try and help some kids like so.

Blockers (2018)

Ones sexuality is something one has to explore themselves it isn’t something someone bestows upon you converts you into. you can be guided but ultimately its your choice.

The movie is about 3 parents
Leslie Mann playing Lisa who is a overly loving single mother of a daughter Julie (Kathryn Newton), John Cena playing Mitcell who is a emotional coach and father to a daughter Kayla (Geraldine Viswanathan), Ike Barinholtz playing Hunter who is a cool divorcee Dad of a daughter Sam (Gideon Adlon). their daughters have been best friends since childhood, as time went by and kids grew up their bond deepened but the parents lost touch with each other. they all get reunited in a gathering before the porn night of the girls, unknown to them the girls planned on a sex-pact with each other to lose their virginity on that day. upon knowing this the parents lose their cool and try to sabotage their plans on this pact as that is what then think is the right thing to do. what ensues is a chase of the girls by the parents and various hilarious moments. until they finally catch up, but by now they come to the conclusion and realisation on their wrongdoings, letting the girls make their own choices and maturing in the process.

Leslie Mann, John Cena and Ike Barinholtz did a good job in the movie as freaked out confused parents, while the girls seemed like the more controlled mature people. the movie has its share of cringe parts and not so funny jokes (at least for me) and lot of bathroom jokes. they saving grace of the movie is the inner theme this movie portrays and that is a very positive experience.

a movie i wound recommend for thus chilling and if you into such comedy genre.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)

A classic comedy that is a must watch teen movie.the story follows the titular character Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) on his plan to skip a day of school, and how he goes about his day.

we start of with Ferris breaking the forth wall and explaining to the audience how and what techniques he thinks are the best to play sick to parents to get a day off from school. then we get introduced to the antagonist of this story the principal of the school Ferris go to and he is someone who as a vendetta again Ferris, upon knowing about his absence he know kids like Ferris is unto no good and wants to catch him red-handed. Ferris convinces his best friend Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck) for a day out and makes up a fake grandma death to get his girlfriend Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara) early leave from the class. this trio then steal ahem i mean borrow Cameron’s dad’s restored Ferrari and drive it around the city visiting restaurants and museums and baseball games, all while evading getting caught and having fun. this is where we are told why Ferris decided to have a day off. soon they will all graduate and go their separate paths, Sloane who is his junior would still be in high school when he graduates, Cameron who doesn’t stand up to his parents is always sick because of it so Ferris wanted to have his friend have a great day to enjoy. now as the day comes to a close we have them all saying good-byes and Ferris having to run back home in time before his parents reach to save his day.

the story is a very simple teen movie and that is its charm, we can see the actors genuinely having fun as their characters and it shows. unlike a lot of the teen movies that utilise bathroom humour as jokes this movie simply using situations as a comic relief. the 4th wall breaks are fun and you cant forget the iconic post credit scene. yes they existed before Marvel started the trend and Deadpool post credit scene is a homage to this one.

the movie has surely aged in some aspects but it captures its inner thoughts beautifully, i do understand the movie might not be for everyone, but i laughed my heart out while watching it and that is what counts. a rating of 8/10 and a tag of must watch.
