Mission Mangal (2019)

a 2019 bollywood film about the first Mars orbital mission done by the ISRO. A mission to mars that was cheaper than many blockbuster movies made.

the films best strength would be the film never becoming too preachy as the story involves various topics of public interest. it manages to show light to them but if being a bit nit picky i will say the films pace gets a bit clogged towards the middle as the various personal lifes of the scientist get shown as it cuts the momentum of the mission. well i can look over it as its a small bump in pace and was used to ground the characters and endear them to us. the film also has an pseudo antagonist in form of an NASA scientist of indian origin who keeps hampering the progresses stating the lack of possiblity and how NASA goes about its missions. the requirement of a foil to the main cast is understandable is done well my issues stems form the way this character plays into the film and his interactions felt bit generic and scripted.

its rare Indian space themed film that is tackled with the sincerity and the conviction to tell a good story and help the audience with the technical aspects with easy to understand bits.

Bharat (2019)

Bharat is a Hindi film from 2019 and is based on a South korean film Ode to My father (2014), which i have not seen but i guess was better that this film.

this is a masala film and it never presented it as anything else, with Salman Khan in the lead the film is bound to go towards the mass appeal, and that by itself isn’t bad the film being based on an existing work along with a masala film suffers the pothole having guessable twist and progression. the film does impose its grand scale onto you and glimpses the epic it wants to be

the one proper criticism i can muster about this film is the fact that this film suffers from pacing even though through out the film stuff keep happening the film feels draggy, and i reckon a crisper edit could solve the issue.

if you sitting down with the intention for a masala film you will be entertained.

Article 15 (2019)

generally movie going for me is a planned process, check the timing book the seats plan the day……..and lot more planning so it works out. it is very rare that i go for a movie impromptu, so rare that when i finally end up doing it last year i said why not a choose two movies at random in the theater and watch them …….first among them was

the 2019 Bollywood starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Manoj Pahwa, Nassar, Kumud Mishra, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and directed by Anubhav Sinha.

the movies is based on true events and still continue to happen in India mainly due to the caste system that even though abolish and prohibited by the constitution of India still has a prevalent impact in the rural regions of India as a ignored reality of India, that exists by never truly acknowledged. the movie begins with the a scene of 2 Dalit girls being ganged up by some guys in a bus, from here we are introduced to Ayan (Ayushmann Khurrana) who is newly posted as the Additional Superintendent of Police of the region. since his arrival into the town the caste discrimination among the residents is seem in various instances. the next morning the bodies of the 2 girls is found hanging for a tree, upon learning the they were gang raped and not murdered investigation is called upon yet the main staff of police are hesitant to go along with it and Brahmadutt Singh (Manoj Pahwa) the next in charge of the station tries to change the case into that of murder by honor killing as the girls were of a lower caste. as the story progresses we are told about the existence of a 3rd girl who might have survived and is missing this story thread is used to give some light at the end of such a murky tunnel. we get to know that the reason from this incident happening to the girls was just because they asked for a increase in wage of 3 rupees. the dishearted effort of the police into this case enrages Aryan who prompts to pin the Article 15 of the Indian Constitution on the billboard as a reminder to all the police officers to first and foremost be Indians and that any kind of caste discrimination is a criminal offence and continues to probe into the case.

hoping to find the 3rd girl and catch the culprit.

the high points of the movie for me was the tone, it held its serious tone all throughout the movie utilizing amazing cinematography by Ewan Mulligan to visually entice us in the scenes at the same time not brake the mood by utilizing the colour pallets of the scene with care. the cast did a splendid job especially, Manoj Pahwa whom i have only experiences with comedy to see him pull of such a twisted serious character made me really invested in his character arc, as for Ayushmann Khurrana let just say this was a movie he chose wisely as this movie showcased his range in acting by tackling a much serious subject matter and doing a great job in it.

this movie was defiantly among the better movies of last year.

Thugs of Hindostan (2018)

A movie that was so much in hype and anticipation before its release because of the star stubbed cast with high and big credentials on them, it was a sure shot to be box office hit. which it was, but it wasn’t good it was disappointing to see the most expensive Bollywood movie to be only this.

the move tells a story set in 1700’s India when kingdoms and kings were falling to the East India Company, meanwhile a group of thugs lead by Khudabaksh (Amitabh Bachchan) who is is a master commander and warrior, who is the guardian for Zafira (Fatima Sana Shaikh) a daughter to a kingdom that fell to the hands of British Raj by the hands of John Clive (Lloyd Owen). in-between this tug of war of control comes in our two faced protagonist Firangi (Aamir Khan) who is an Indian who dreams of being a Britisher, the name Firangi also is slang word used by Indians for foreigner primarily Britishers. he is a spy that is ready to betray anyone for his interests, thus to tackle this thug problem Clive uses Firangi’s skills to infiltrate the group and cause the death of its members. but after meeting Khudabaksh, Firangi starts having doubts about his alliances and plans to defeat the Britishers, or is it just a trap for the Thugs.

Aamir Khan was good in this movie though the character that he portrayed didn’t feel as special to me as he let on in his interview where he mentioned the reason for signing this movie. Amitabh Bachchan had a presence in this movie but it felt not used properly.
Katrina Kaif was only in this script for the sake of eye candy, really there wasn’t really any reason for he character to be there. Fatima Sana Shaikh felt so bland here as if there just an emo kid in path of revenge and not in a good way.

the showcases the pure waste of such a big, no i mean huge Budget and produce such a mediocre movie. the movie isn’t such a great movie as it was advertised, i think the major reason the movie got such a back lash from the media and its audience is because the cast in it were known for the selections of great movie with nice scrutiny those it the common people it felt that so many star cast wouldn’t make a bad choice with this movie, unfortunately we were wrong this time.

i wouldn’t recommend this movie, sure you can watch for the eye candy and for the reason if you are the fans of these cast, but still i would recommend for any other reason. tag of waste of time, and rate of 4-5/10.

Uri : The Surgical Strike (2019)

Featured

The India Pakistan Fight is as old as the origin of the countries themselves, they both have fought against themselves multiple times and minor skirmishes are near common place but a new terror as crept up in to his conflict, one that both would not like to harbour. Terrorism people who for their ideology are ready to bleed the innocent.

Such was one incident that pushed India over its limit and this passive nation that before let itself get hit repeatedly decided it high time that we show that we can and will retaliate if need be and can go it just as good as them.

this incident was the Uri attack. in which 4 militants entered the army camp and killed nearly 17 soldiers in their sleep. this lead to a national uproar for some action just like usual it seemed government was quiet. unaware India was ready and eager to strike back this time for it had endured enough now its their moment to show the militant groups. unaware to the general public Indian army laughed surgical strikes on the militant laugh pads i.e. headquarters across the LoC (line of control that divides India and Pakistan). This movies is a dramatised rendition of this retaliation.

the movie is divided into 5 Chapters each parts showcasing the incidents that lead to the strikes.

Chapter 1 – The Seven Sisters, shows us to the characters and their abilities during a strike on a militant group in the northeastern states of India. after a army convoy was targeted by these militants.

Chapter 2 – An Unsettling Peace, shows us the inner turmoil all the soldiers face once they are removed from their post and sent back to their homes. Like our protagonist
Major Vihan Singh Shergill (Vicky Kaushal), who asked to get transferred as to take care of his mother who suffers from Alzheimer. Also the Surveillance by Indian intelligence on the soldiers to prevent any retaliation from the northeaster militant groups.

Chapter 3 – Bleed India with a Thousand Cuts, shows us the Uri attack that was done by the 4 militants and the aftermath the families had to endure due to such an attack.

Chapter 4 – Naya Hindustan (New India), shows us like the title the new India that is not gonna sit still, now its getting ready to strike back using new innovations and force if need be.

Chapter 5 – The Surgical Strike, this is the climax the final showdown the moment when all the information gathering and preparations come full circle. the moment When India goes ahead on the mission to hit the militant laugh pad fast and hard.

the movie is a military action Bollywood film that is brilliantly told. To a Indian Audience this film will hold a special significance as it brings forth a hope of a new India that is ready for change ready to show the world what it means to

Actors Paresh Rawal and Yami Gautam portrayed their roles very nicely but the star
Vicky Kaushal stole the show with his charisma he has in this film. whenever he was riling up his soldiers you could fell your blood getting in the action too. His emotions feels so raw that you cant help getting swayed by them.

Vicky Kaushal in his uniform.

a movie i recommend to all especially who like military movies but that is not the only group that need to watch this. a tag of must watch and rating of 8/10.

Race 3 (2018)

An action movie that you must watch with your mind switched off and laws of physics forgotten.

just yesterday i watched some good action sequences and today this (face-palm) there are not words to describe effort i had to put through to see this. just for the sake of action one action sequence goes to other with a sprinkle for uninteresting drama and songs in between the movie and Ta-Da a movie specifically a Race 3 movie.

the story follows a arms exporter family’s head (Anil Kapoor) and his son, daughter and adopted son(Salman Khan). As the legitimate offspring are envious of their fathers love for the adopted they plot to get him killed. unaware he himself is already aware of their intentions and is manoeuvring around it so that no harm comes to the family. the story gets more complex multiple backstabbing takes place. until we reach the epic conclusion where the grand reveal tells us that all the kids are of the same mother and the father they knew wasn’t the real one, but the person responsible for their biological fathers death.

the story by itself isn’t bad put the pace and the internal plots just make it to haphazard to make it fell fulfilling. the jarring transitions and songs that just break any tension that could be achieved just makes you lose interest. now why i say forget the laws of physics well that is because they forgot the laws when filming the sequences as well as the concept of moderation. there is is scene where the family head fires onto a person riding a bike travelling towards him which causes him to burst into flames, not even as if the bike burst no the person burst into flames. another of these great scene is the scene where our main character the Adopted son holds a literal rocket launcher in his hands to shoot at cars to blow them away. scenes where everyone just happens to be wearing base jumping suits what an convenience.

i never have been fan of this series but sure it makes a ton of money so it would definitely get made more just like how the end scene had in mind by proposing a sequel. watch at your own discretion.

Hate Story 3 (2015)

the third instalment in the hate story franchise, now if you are not aware of this franchise which is famous or infamous for its steamy scenes in its movies, and honestly there isn’t much else to them.

the story starts with a highly successful businessman (Sharman Joshi) who seems to have it all: money, style and love. but all seems to fall apart as soon as a rival (Karan Singh Grover) appears who is only ready to stop causing the problems if the wife (Zareen Khan) of the Businessman agrees for a one night stand, that just not the whole picture as another twist awaits.

now like i begin the blog with this one is not a movie with much substance in the first place the only reason i know why people watch this is for the scenes in it and literally nothing else. the story was so bland that i could see all the twist a mile away. the acting was so one dimensional, nearly all the characters had only one face for all emotion.

honestly knew this movie was a disaster before i watched it i it stands true even now. not recommending it at all, but sure go ahead for the steamy scenes are nice.

Judwaa 2 (2017)

i think i have been cursed with selection of bad films, even though its random it still sucks that my luck repeatedly makes me watch such stupid films…yesterday it was ezra and today judwaa 2. so lets begin.

Judwaa 2 is remake of the old bollywood comedy action movie as in 20yrs old named Judwaa released in 1997, and follows the basically the same story line as the original. twins brothers played by Varun Dhawan get separated at birth and grow up in vastly different environment, now they are uniquely connected to each other via their reflexes, that is if they are close to each other ones actions can be simultaneously performed by other. they both fall in love with different girls (Jacqueline Fernandez and Tapsee Pannu) and follows the confusion that ensues.

honestly the premise is fun and could be really made intriguing but the movie isnt ever ready to do so everything in this movie is for jokes. it would have been alright if thats the direction a movie wants to go, but the jokes are not even funny they just cringe and nothing else. the film is filled with a lot of big names and what we get is all these big names just over acting the monotone characters, the star of this overacting the main man Varun, i know he has talent in acting but it seems the skill he most excels is slap stick comic over acting, but even that seems so overly done in this film.

there is one scene that sums this movie up perfectly, a standstill in the plot is achieved during this time the characters are taking in a park a ball come and hits them in anger they kick the ball which get kicked far where random people walking down various places just kick it around and it ends up hitting the head of the of the villain’s son who before this lost his memory because of the main character hitting him.

the infamous scene

i am tired of the Bollywood industries attempts at making remakes of older movies to cash in on the nostalgia, even if the writers and director say they making it in as a new not remake like movie we all know what it truly is a movie to make us buy the ticket as we can affiliate to the original. and seeing such a movie make over 100 crores in box office makes me think the trend isnt dying anytime soon.

i would recommend it for YouTube cringe videos….viewers discretion advised. rated 3-4/10

Madras Cafe (2013)

The story tells about the journey of a Indian intelligence agent (John Abraham) uncovering the plans and conspiracies leading up to the assassination of the ex prime minister rajiv gandhi, during the Sri lankan civil war period. A movie which doesn’t waste time in unnecessary plot lines and is trying to paint us a picture of what went behind the scene unto the tragedy that ensued.

John Abraham does a good job in this movie showcasing the stress and gravity of the situation that was going on at a turbulent time thus allowing us those unaware of the total picture understand. the supporting cast was also well casted as all of them did a great job in selling their character a hard thing to do when the screen time you get is so small. as of fact this one movie of Nargis Fakhri where i think she portrays a character in a natural manner.

the story follows a direct storyline with the assassination acting line the endpoint and showcases the events that lead to it, the director does a good job in boldly showing the story in a manner he views the facts and cuts off certain themes in a objective manner for the viewer to decide.

this is movie worth watching for reliving the past in an different light.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016)

i came tired and worn out from my classes and fell on my bed, and randomly choice a movie to watch for today (honestly was too tired to watch but the mammoth task wont allow me the rest) and curses for this movie got selected, I have been avoiding this movie since its release for I know what the general story-line of this movie is a heartstrings pulling type. The type I really bad at watching.

The story follows the chance encounter of a boy (Ayan Sanger) played by
Ranbir Kapoor and girl (Alizeh) played by Anushka Sharma, who instantly hit it off for their unique but compatible personalities. As their friendship grows Ayan starts falling in love with Alizeh ,unfortunately she doesn’t feel so to her the friendship they have is worth more than any relationship. Not able to understand her thoughts Ayan’s actions causes a rift between them.

The story and the concept was really interesting as it breaks the general archetypes that Indian movie industry is known for and reverses them. Which felt as a refreshing change of pace. but that is only true for the first half of the story, as in towards the climax a {spoilers} bomb is dropped on us to makes us more sympathetic for the alizeh the cancer card, now i am not saying cancer is nothing to be sad about here it really felt it was played too on the nose {/spoilers}

the best part of this movie is the acting which is really good weather it was by Ranbir portraying a emotional guy or anushka as a free spirited dramatic girl. yet the portrayal that stole the show for me was by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan of a divorcee who starts falling in love with Ranbir, here actions and demeanour in character felt so captivating to watch.

now i would recommend a one time watch for this movie as thats all i would ever be watching it.
