Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

i know i know another marvel in a row, but i ENJOYED the shit out of this movie, this is now among my favourite marvel movies. A movie that knows its character, knows what need to shown and what we the audience want.

i dont think i need to tell you about Spiderman you might know better than me. this is story a coming to age story of Spiderman after The civil war incident caused him to get too confident on his skills and in his suit that he falters, only to find his footing back to understand what needs to do and what it means to be a friendly neighbourhood spiderman.

Tom Holland‘s performance as the spiddy was awesome he has the charm that felt so much enticing he makes me remember the childish nature any kid would have, its just that he is a kid with superpowers. Michael Keaton as the Vulture was fantastic, his character and the back stroy makes his actions and decisions so understandable to the audience that grounded the movie and the plot. the supporting cast also does a good job to keep the movie in its light mood, finally Robert Downey Jr. as Tony was just being Tony.

the favourite part, or the part that told me this movie will not disappoint was the scene early in the movie that showcased to us the daily routine of spiderman going around Small crimes sometimes making mistakes, joking around. that to me sold this movie the movie wasnt about an end of the world scenario and that is its biggest strength as that is what allows this movie to explore the much more rooted story and themes.

Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)

first off all i need to come clean, this might be a shock but i havent been upto date with marvel movies……i know shocker. for past 2 years i havent watched any of their movies, but i finally stopped the break and thought lets get into it again before the endgame appears. so i decided with this film (many more marvels coming soon).

if you weren’t living under a rock in planet Mars then you probably heard about the Marvel Cinematic Universe its a little something thats been going on for a little while, like just 10 years. So this is a part of that universe telling a sequel to the first party the Antman (2015). the plot of this movie is that Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) thinks up a hypothesis to save his wife Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) who has been stuck in the quantum level. During this time Our hero Antman Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) has been under house arrest because of the Incident in Civil War (another marvel movie if you were in Mars). In the last movie Antman was stuck in the same quantum level like Hank’s wife thus they had a incident of quantum entanglement……ya i am not even gonna try to explain. basically witht the help of Scott hank And his daughter Hope (Evangeline Lilly) will try to save Janet. while they do that FBI is trying to Catch them, Black market thugs want to get hands on Pym’s labs And the major Villian Ghost a Quantam Fazzing assassin of S.H.I.E.L.D who needs the Pym technologies to survive.

i know that was a lot of quantum, but the movie has more of it like seriously the movies is quantum and nothing else.

The best part of this movie is the light heartiness compared to lot of the other more recent marvel movies and its jokes and humour. That is the nature of this franchise and it does a good job in that regards. Paul does excellent work in his character, but for me the best character was the supporting character Luis (Michael Peña), who just makes it fun to watch the movie. The Truth serum scene was among the funniest and best scenes of the movie.

the movies ending climax is a bit rushed and lazy but nonetheless its not like i go for these movies for super great writing. i did enjoy the movie not among the best marvel has to offer but sure a fun watch thats the tag i guess and a rate of 6/10

Solo (2017)

Featured

First off all NOT the Starwars film, but a Malayalam 2017 film, which is an anthology film Consisting of 4 separate stories that focus on the natural elements….Water, Air, Fire and Earth.

the first story revolves around theme water, protagonist shekar (Dulquer Salmaan) who is a stutter falls in love with a blind Dancer Radhika (Dhansika) and the troubles they face because of it. life is like a river and we are just humble travellers on it, no matter how the tides change we have to be strong and endure for our loved ones.

the Second story revolves around the theme of Air, protagonist Trilok (Dulquer Salmaan) saves a man who caused the death of his wife 4 years prior in a road accident. the story follows just like a cool breeze suddenly turning into a hurricane.

the Third Story revolves around the theme of fire, the Protagonist Shiva (Dulquer Salmaan) a gangster sets out on revenge for the death of his fathers death by an unknown assailant. The movie showcases just like the uncontrollable nature of the deadly fire or anger burning and destroying everything in its path.

The Fourth story revolves arounf theme Earth, the Protagonist Rudra (Dulquer Salmaan) who is a army officer falls in love with Daughter of a brigadier (Neha Sharma) who love each other deeply until one day She suddenly runs away and leaves him. Just a earth shaking reveal is left of the audience.

if you noticed the star in all the stories is Dulquer as he is doing a quadruple role in this film. and he delivers this is amongst his best performances i would say. the actresses that play a key role in all the other stories also did a great job.

the 4 protagonists name are the alternative names of the lord Shiva (A Hindu Deity), and each story follows its themes and showcases it with its relative element again and again in its scenes. like how the significance of beaches(water) was to Radhika, how much anger(fire) Shiva was in always, how turbulent/calm (air) Trilok was or how a Rudra or any army soldiers train in earth and terrains. the movie also has a colour pallet for the respective stories that expresses it with a special color tone. In Shekhar – Blue (Water) In Trilok – White (Air) In Shiva – Red (Fire) In Rudra – Green(Earth)

among the movies Shiva’s Fire was my favourite, with air and water coming close but the earth story is just a bit empty for me as it just doesn’t have the same closure to it, especially it being the climax, and it was a complain that was felt by most who watched it. nonetheless all are good stories on the own right but i really felt fire had a scope to be a feature length in itself. the best thing in this movie is the art work that introduces the new story and its corresponding theme in various forms of lord Shiva with the elements, they were just so stunning to look at.

this is not a movie for everyone as someone looking for a masala film this one wouldn’t work out. i thoroughly enjoyed this movie sure it has its problems but i will look past them, as i say if you like it then what else matters, i would rate this movie a 7/10 and a tag of good watch.

Blockers (2018)

Ones sexuality is something one has to explore themselves it isn’t something someone bestows upon you converts you into. you can be guided but ultimately its your choice.

The movie is about 3 parents
Leslie Mann playing Lisa who is a overly loving single mother of a daughter Julie (Kathryn Newton), John Cena playing Mitcell who is a emotional coach and father to a daughter Kayla (Geraldine Viswanathan), Ike Barinholtz playing Hunter who is a cool divorcee Dad of a daughter Sam (Gideon Adlon). their daughters have been best friends since childhood, as time went by and kids grew up their bond deepened but the parents lost touch with each other. they all get reunited in a gathering before the porn night of the girls, unknown to them the girls planned on a sex-pact with each other to lose their virginity on that day. upon knowing this the parents lose their cool and try to sabotage their plans on this pact as that is what then think is the right thing to do. what ensues is a chase of the girls by the parents and various hilarious moments. until they finally catch up, but by now they come to the conclusion and realisation on their wrongdoings, letting the girls make their own choices and maturing in the process.

Leslie Mann, John Cena and Ike Barinholtz did a good job in the movie as freaked out confused parents, while the girls seemed like the more controlled mature people. the movie has its share of cringe parts and not so funny jokes (at least for me) and lot of bathroom jokes. they saving grace of the movie is the inner theme this movie portrays and that is a very positive experience.

a movie i wound recommend for thus chilling and if you into such comedy genre.

Shabdo (2012)

Featured

‘Shabdo’ is the word in Bengali language for the word sound, which is apt for this movie as it deals primarily with Sounds and its effect for people who deal with it.

Sound is all around us, some which alert us like an alarm clock some which we just ignore nor never pay attention too like a rotating of the fan on the ceiling. humans are very selective about the sounds we give attention to. some are ignore instinctively while some deliberately.

the Movie follows the life of a Foley Artist, Tarak Dutta (Ritwick Chakraborty) who has become obsessed with sounds as his profession is so closely related to it. for those who don’t know what Foley is, in movies lot of noises you hear are not captured when the film itself is being shot, thus someone has to add these sounds into the film once the film is shot. this people are called Foley artist, for eg. sounds like someone walking or falling down are not necessarily captured while shooting so these sounds get recreated in a studio so that us audience get a better audio for such actions. the movie follows Tarak’s growing obsession to sounds and him getting distracted to various sounds around him even when people are talking to him. this causes his wife (Raima Sen) to consult a Doctor (Churni Ganguly) for him, who tries her hardest to relay the gravity of the situation to Tarak, he stays in denial. this only worsen his as time progresses his mind is tuning out human noises and concentrating more on the generally ignored ones. at one point unable to cope with the sounds Tarak even attempts suicide, luckily gets saved. this makes him come to a realisation that he is unwell and in put into rehabilitation, where he is made to hear recorded human sounds to bring him back to reality.

the movie is a masterpiece, touching onto a subject so closely related to the movie industry and portraying the life of such artists. The way the movie is Directed is values every little sounds made to allow the audience to understand and connect to the protagonist on how he views the sound and how he tunes human voices out. Ritwick Chakraborty does such a fantastic job of portraying the character obsessed with sounds that at points even us try to understand his views on sounds and its intoxicating effects. thus it wasn’t surprising to know this film won the 60th National Film Awards for Best Feature Film in Bengali.

my favourite or most interesting scene was, at one point tarak notices a difference in sounds made by cup when its kept on a table when full, and empty. he then tell this information to his colleague who checks it out by himself and gets fascinated, later in movie we get to see his fascination to sounds evolving into something kinda like obsession as we see him staring into a washing machine that is working and being immersed in its sound while his phone keeps ringing. we get to see that this condition isnt something only Tarak can have but something that can effect anybody and that part of the movie is what is fascinating to me.

i would recommend this movie surely but its not a movie that will sit well to everyone but even then i would say give it a watch who know it might fascinate you too. a tag of masterpiece and rating of 8/10.

Bidāẏa (Bengali for goodbye)

Mile 22 (2018)

let me start of with this i enjoyed this movie only for one reason………read rest to know.

Action movies are never my first choice in any movie collection but they are always my first choice when i want to just chill down and get some adrenaline fix, by seeing some dope Acton sequences and stunts, and one-liners to a down enemy…..Action movies just hit the marks in this regards.

this movie, follows a special operations group known as the Overwatch, who take care of crisis before they ever emerge or get eyes of the world (basically every generic intelligence group). the movie starts with us getting introduced to the mode of operations by the showing us them taking down a secret group of KGB. now the real movies starts from this point where in some Asian country our protagonist James Silva (Mark Wahlberg) get tasked with finding some caesium that got stolen. this is when Li Noor (Iko Uwais) a local Police officer who was a informer for Silva’s group brings a encrypted drive which contains valuable information, which he is only ready to give access to if given asylum in America. thus Silva’s team now has to transport Li to the nearest airstrip within allocated time, which is around 22 miles from then headquarters (Geez i wonder why they names the movie miles 22). All this while armed and dangerous foes who dont want the disk leaking are gonna chase them the whole way.

now there are some other aspects to the movie i didn’t go into detain to prevent any sort of spoilers as i believe to keep things hush hush so that you guys can enjoy the movie to same extent as me. the movie is a fast paced high octane action thriller with enjoyable performance by Mark Wahlberg and Iko Uwais. Iko Uwais stole the show with his portrayal and the action sequences that were brutal and really choreographed and executed. you could say that was the movies true selling point (though this isn’t the point i mentioned earlier).

there are more badass scene of this man, watch the movie just for that if you want.

now i do have my complains with this movie, the is generic, like really generic it isn’t that hard to see through the plot if you are experienced with enough movie of this genre, it also has many underdeveloped characters, honestly if this movie had only this much to offer then it wont have been that mention worthy to me.

then you might be thinking why did i enjoy this film well that is for a simple factor that is how the movie ended. This is what i call the Baahubali effect, for those are unaware, Baahubali is a Indian 2 part movie, which was a huge hit in India the movies 1st part ended in manner that caused the movies value to increase thus increasing the hype for the second movie. you could say they 2nd movies success was partly because of the ending. Now i am not saying both are the same ending but this movie ends in a manner which i never expected when though i knew the main twist was coming. this movie ends in a cliffhanger and not in the general fashion such movies end in, mainly to build up hype for the sequel.

am i hyped, oh hell NO. not at all because one thing the about this one i like is the ending but rest is just mediocre in my eyes and that doesn’t hype me up for s sequel that much. but sure i would watch and rant about it when it comes out.

i would add a fun watch tag to it and rate it 7/10 (just or my enjoyment otherwise a 5)

people always seek better life for themselves and their family, some do it for something they desire but sometimes even doing so becomes so hard people decide take up drastic measures.

She calls up Aji and tells him to Come to america for her to convince her parents as she doesn’t want to marry and loves him. this makes Aji try to get to america but unfortunately unable to get visa makes him take a drastic decision to get into america the illegal way. this is the journey that the story is about crossing multiple borders Aji makes it to mexico from here its a long trek to cross the border with him are many fellow humans who yearn for a better life across the border some wanting to visit family or loved ones. Along the way they get ditched by their guide, run into people trying to kill them they survive but start to dwindle in hope and number. they are finally caught but manage to escape Aji makes a run for it and is finally in American. he goes to his contact in america to settle down. its here he gets to know that Sarah never thought a Homeland loving boy like Aji would ever come to america anyway and only called to reassure her position to him, and had accepted the marriage already. This Gives Aji a shock but he realises that the journey to reach was more valuable to him than Sarah now and he is thankful to her for this and leaves to get back to Kerala.

the movies shows the troubles people go though in life and the things people and ready to do for the hope alone for the better life across the border. the struggles people face while they cross such a dangerous path where only their hope drives them.

i wouldn’t recommend this movie honestly not a bad movie but it didnt hit any notes with me, A can see tag and a rating of 5/10.

Mark Ruffalo is a very good actor, but its not only that he acts out this character nicely its that he seems to be having fun doing so that adds another layer to the personality of Cam, making his behaviours and breakdown seem genuine and tangible.

Cam and Maggie.

Uri : The Surgical Strike (2019)

Featured

The India Pakistan Fight is as old as the origin of the countries themselves, they both have fought against themselves multiple times and minor skirmishes are near common place but a new terror as crept up in to his conflict, one that both would not like to harbour. Terrorism people who for their ideology are ready to bleed the innocent.

Such was one incident that pushed India over its limit and this passive nation that before let itself get hit repeatedly decided it high time that we show that we can and will retaliate if need be and can go it just as good as them.

this incident was the Uri attack. in which 4 militants entered the army camp and killed nearly 17 soldiers in their sleep. this lead to a national uproar for some action just like usual it seemed government was quiet. unaware India was ready and eager to strike back this time for it had endured enough now its their moment to show the militant groups. unaware to the general public Indian army laughed surgical strikes on the militant laugh pads i.e. headquarters across the LoC (line of control that divides India and Pakistan). This movies is a dramatised rendition of this retaliation.

the movie is divided into 5 Chapters each parts showcasing the incidents that lead to the strikes.

Chapter 1 – The Seven Sisters, shows us to the characters and their abilities during a strike on a militant group in the northeastern states of India. after a army convoy was targeted by these militants.

Chapter 2 – An Unsettling Peace, shows us the inner turmoil all the soldiers face once they are removed from their post and sent back to their homes. Like our protagonist
Major Vihan Singh Shergill (Vicky Kaushal), who asked to get transferred as to take care of his mother who suffers from Alzheimer. Also the Surveillance by Indian intelligence on the soldiers to prevent any retaliation from the northeaster militant groups.

Chapter 3 – Bleed India with a Thousand Cuts, shows us the Uri attack that was done by the 4 militants and the aftermath the families had to endure due to such an attack.

Chapter 4 – Naya Hindustan (New India), shows us like the title the new India that is not gonna sit still, now its getting ready to strike back using new innovations and force if need be.

Chapter 5 – The Surgical Strike, this is the climax the final showdown the moment when all the information gathering and preparations come full circle. the moment When India goes ahead on the mission to hit the militant laugh pad fast and hard.

the movie is a military action Bollywood film that is brilliantly told. To a Indian Audience this film will hold a special significance as it brings forth a hope of a new India that is ready for change ready to show the world what it means to

Actors Paresh Rawal and Yami Gautam portrayed their roles very nicely but the star
Vicky Kaushal stole the show with his charisma he has in this film. whenever he was riling up his soldiers you could fell your blood getting in the action too. His emotions feels so raw that you cant help getting swayed by them.

Vicky Kaushal in his uniform.

a movie i recommend to all especially who like military movies but that is not the only group that need to watch this. a tag of must watch and rating of 8/10.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)

A classic comedy that is a must watch teen movie.the story follows the titular character Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) on his plan to skip a day of school, and how he goes about his day.

we start of with Ferris breaking the forth wall and explaining to the audience how and what techniques he thinks are the best to play sick to parents to get a day off from school. then we get introduced to the antagonist of this story the principal of the school Ferris go to and he is someone who as a vendetta again Ferris, upon knowing about his absence he know kids like Ferris is unto no good and wants to catch him red-handed. Ferris convinces his best friend Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck) for a day out and makes up a fake grandma death to get his girlfriend Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara) early leave from the class. this trio then steal ahem i mean borrow Cameron’s dad’s restored Ferrari and drive it around the city visiting restaurants and museums and baseball games, all while evading getting caught and having fun. this is where we are told why Ferris decided to have a day off. soon they will all graduate and go their separate paths, Sloane who is his junior would still be in high school when he graduates, Cameron who doesn’t stand up to his parents is always sick because of it so Ferris wanted to have his friend have a great day to enjoy. now as the day comes to a close we have them all saying good-byes and Ferris having to run back home in time before his parents reach to save his day.

the story is a very simple teen movie and that is its charm, we can see the actors genuinely having fun as their characters and it shows. unlike a lot of the teen movies that utilise bathroom humour as jokes this movie simply using situations as a comic relief. the 4th wall breaks are fun and you cant forget the iconic post credit scene. yes they existed before Marvel started the trend and Deadpool post credit scene is a homage to this one.

the movie has surely aged in some aspects but it captures its inner thoughts beautifully, i do understand the movie might not be for everyone, but i laughed my heart out while watching it and that is what counts. a rating of 8/10 and a tag of must watch.
