The Replacements (2000)

for the past months i have been obsessed with NFL, through the revolving door of favourite sports i felt compled to see a film based on nfl or something similar as i surfed the database for one the fits the bill i saw Keanu Reeves and knew it then i need to see this for myself.

And the verdict well its MEH…..

the film is cookie cutter ensemble underdog sports film and i know it is inspired by real events but the dramatisation of the film stretches the real events tag thin. the Meh ness of the film is derived from various factors like clichéd characters, outcomes and development. but if i had to choose one thing that really effects it i put my money on the starting tone of the film that rarely tried to change that is of the happy go lucky tone the film has and carry through out the film. in results in foreshadowing any tension or outcome the film tries to set up as the film it self doesn’t seem to care enough to set the tone.

one hot take i have is the female leads presence though i am not against the inclusion of female character into the story the fact that it was a blatant love interest into a story of redemption or second chance dilutes the initial conflict of the film and also sidetracks the film flow as the main leads start taking the screen time over the games and players.

my favourite character from the film, no real reason just his introduction was a surprise and a delight. also this pic is oddly adorable.

overall i dont see any reason to hate this film but no love either, a simple easy watch to see some borderline racist jokes and American Football. i guess 5.5 / 10
